Acne
Finding The Cause Might Help With The Cure For Acne
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in the world. It affects almost 100 percent of the population at one point of time or another. As common as it is, however, acne is one of the most difficult skin problems to treat.
This is so for a number of reasons, but mostly because of the fact it doesn't have a single cause. Add to the complication that it also doesn't have a single cure that works in every case and the difficulty involved in treating it becomes very clear.
When persistent acne is a serious problem, searching out possible causes might lead to the correct curative measure for an individual. Some potential causes that might have an effective cure include:
* Hormonal changes. Infant acne, menstrual acne and even mid-life acne in women can generally be improved with medications and/or time. For the infant, time is generally the best bet. For menstrual induced acne, birth control pills that contain hormones sometimes clear up the situation quite quickly. Menopausal women might find relief in hormone treatments, as well.
* Drug induced acne. Some medications are known to carry acne as a side effect. If these medications are stopped or the dosages changed, sometimes the condition will right itself. Stopping prescription drugs without medical advice or changing the dosages is not recommended, however. Do seek input from the doctor about this. Some drugs that can cause acne can be dangerous to stop midcourse.
* Cosmetic induced acne. Sometimes makeup, hairspray or other products can irritate the skin and make acne worse or even possibly cause the condition. Be careful about what you choose to use on your skin and take care to keep hair products off of it. Look for cosmetics that are dermatologist tested to not cause acne and do make the investment. They might cost more, but they will be worth the extra expense if acne is removed from the equation.
There are a whole host of other potential causes for acne and removing them may or may not have an impact on the condition. The presentation of acne is generally caused by different reasons in different people. Medications that work for some in treating the condition might not work for all.
It's a tricky condition to treat and an even trickier condition to live with, but acne can be battled successfully in many people if time and patience are invested in its conquest. There's no reason to give up the effort, but do remember it can take some time to hit on the right path to take to effectively treat breakouts in an individual.
