Natural Treatments Can Help Some Acne Sufferers

When it comes to acne, there seems to be only one stereotype that fits across the board - no single treatment will work for every person all the time. With this in mind, many acne sufferers have found that natural, home remedies have served their purpose as well or better than over the counter and prescription medications. They may not work for everyone, but those who find them effective, swear by them.

No matter the treatment, natural or otherwise, it's important to watch for any side effects that might crop up. If they do, seek medical help, if necessary, or discontinue use of the "remedy."

Since there's no single cause and no single cure, some people believe that trying anything (as long as it's not dangerous) is worth the effort. And for those who like holistic medicine over harsh chemicals and trips to the doctor, the following treatments have been reported to have some success in some cases. Natural remedies for acne include:

* Toothpaste daubed onto the area at night. The paste must be left on overnight and taken off in the morning during normal cleansing.
* A fenugreek leaf paste applied to the face each night for about 10 minutes. This should be washed off with lukewarm water. Remember to avoid scrubbing.
* Tomato pulp applied to pimples and left on for about an hour. Wash off with lukewarm water.
* Some people says strawberry leaves applied to inflamed areas will assist with the swelling.
* Rose water and lemon juice mixed together and applied to the face for about 30 minutes a night. This is suggested to be repeated nightly for about 15 evenings. Some case lime juice works better than lemons.
* Ice. This might not help the acne, but it may assist in the swelling. Be certain not to leave the ice on for too long.
* A paste made from cumin seeds applied to the face nightly and removed shortly thereafter with lukewarm water is said by some to battle acne effectively.
* Consumption of wheat grass juice is said by some to prevent and cure acne.

There are literally dozens and dozens more home remedy ideas for acne. How well they work is anyone's guess, but many people swear by them. Remember if trying any of these, as it is with prescription and over the counter medicines, it's important to cease treatment if side effects crop up. Trading one skin condition for another is not the answer and adding a new one to the existing problem isn't good either.
